Scaleway Object Storage and Cloudflare R2 are priced within a whisker of each other on storage, $0.0146 against $0.015 per GB-month, and the decision rests entirely on what surrounds them. Scaleway includes the first 75 GB of storage and 75 GB of egress free every month, which for a small project means the bill is genuinely zero. R2 charges from the first byte but never charges for egress at any volume. So Scaleway is cheaper for small workloads and R2 is cheaper for any workload serving more than about 75 GB a month, and the crossover comes quickly for anything public-facing. Scaleway is a French provider with European data residency, and its object storage sits alongside its instances, Kubernetes and managed databases, so it is a sensible choice if the rest of your infrastructure is there and GDPR jurisdiction is a requirement you can point at. R2's argument is Cloudflare's network: buckets are adjacent to Workers, the CDN and cache, and there is no egress charge between them or to the internet. For a European company keeping data in Europe with modest traffic, Scaleway's free tier and jurisdiction are worth more than the fractional price difference. For anything serving significant public traffic, R2's zero-egress model is the whole argument and it is decisive.
